Rivers State Sets Deadline for Commercial Vehicle Painting

The Rivers State Ministry of Transport has issued an ultimatum to commercial transport operators, requiring them to paint their vehicles in the approved state colours by October 31, 2026. This directive, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr (Mrs) Vera Sam-Dike, aims to improve public safety and facilitate the identification of legitimate commercial vehicles by commuters.

The mandate applies to taxi, bus, and tricycle (keke) operators. Monitoring and enforcement will commence on November 1, 2026, with any non-compliant vehicles being impounded and operators barred from service until compliance is achieved and applicable fines are paid.

The ministry has encouraged operators to contact Engr. Andrew Alapuberesisika, the Head of the Land Transportation Department, for information on subsidized painting workshops. The Rivers State Government expressed appreciation for the cooperation of transport union leaders and vehicle owners who have already complied with the directive.
