Ghana Seeks Extradition of Russian Man for Cyber Crimes

A Russian man, identified as a self-styled pick-up artist and online blogger, reportedly recorded sexual encounters with several Ghanaian and Kenyan women without their consent and shared the footage online. Ghana's Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, led by Sam George, has initiated an investigation into the allegations.

The ministry intends to request the extradition of the suspect, who has left the country, to hold him accountable for his actions. The Russian ambassador has been invited to discuss the situation, as Ghana seeks cooperation from Moscow to ensure justice for the victims.

Ghana's Cybersecurity Act of 2020 imposes severe penalties for publishing explicit images without consent, with offenders facing up to 25 years in prison. The case highlights increasing concerns over online abuse, including sexual extortion and revenge porn, prompting Ghana to enhance its legal framework against such crimes.
