Sambisa Forest Size Complicates Kidnap Rescues, Says Musa

General Christopher Musa (retd.), the Minister of Defence, discussed the challenges posed by the size of Sambisa Forest, which he compared to Belgium, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He stated that the expansive area makes it difficult for security forces to quickly locate and rescue individuals kidnapped by terrorists.

Musa noted that while many Nigerians have been rescued, kidnappers often escape into the forest before troops can respond. He explained that the terrain provides an advantage to terrorists, allowing them to vanish after attacks.

Musa referred to a recent operation in Kwara State where security forces successfully rescued victims by restricting the movement of their abductors. He also mentioned that authorities are monitoring financial transactions related to criminal activities, including ransom payments, to track kidnappers.

Musa advised state governors to be cautious with distributing motorcycles as palliatives, warning they could aid terrorists. Despite the challenges, he asserted that security forces are making progress in combating terrorism and kidnapping.
