Sanwo-Olu’s Wife Advocates Daily Sanitation in Lagos

Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, called on residents to embrace daily sanitation practices to mitigate flooding and disease outbreaks. This appeal was made during a monthly sanitation exercise in Eputu London, Ibeju-Lekki, on Saturday.

She highlighted that poor waste management exacerbates flooding and can lead to health issues, urging residents to avoid dumping waste in drainage systems and to utilize refuse collectors. Sanwo-Olu noted the increasing acceptance of the monthly sanitation initiative, with community members, including children, participating actively.

She praised the residents for their efforts despite ongoing flooding challenges and mentioned plans to involve schoolchildren in future exercises to foster environmental consciousness. Additionally, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, stated that the government is enhancing waste management through the construction of transfer loading stations and material recovery facilities to improve waste evacuation across the state.
