Building Collapse in Abuja Sparks Emergency Response

A building that had been sealed by the Department of Development Control collapsed on Abidjan Street in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja. The FCT Police Command received a distress call regarding the incident at approximately 7:45 PM on Monday.

Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, reported that a police response team was dispatched to the scene, joined by personnel from various emergency agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Federal Fire Service, Security Service Department, and the Federal Capital Territory Administration. Preliminary investigations indicated that the building had previously been marked and sealed due to safety concerns.

As of the time of the statement, no casualties had been confirmed, but search and rescue operations were ongoing to locate any individuals potentially trapped under the debris. The police are also conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances and possible causes of the collapse, urging residents to remain calm and avoid the area.
