NCoS Sanctions 147 Staff, Destroys 1,167 Mobile Phones

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has sanctioned 147 staff members for various acts of misconduct, including complicity in contraband trafficking. This decision comes amid a significant security breach, as the NCoS destroyed 1,167 mobile phones, which included Android devices, iPhones, and various accessories.

The destruction of these items occurred at the NCoS headquarters in Abuja and was part of a broader effort to address the challenges posed by smuggling and contraband within correctional facilities. Sylvest Ndidi Nwakuch, the head of the NCoS, emphasized that the issue is not solely due to internal actors but also involves external individuals exploiting weaknesses in the system.

He warned that anyone involved in smuggling or facilitating contraband, whether staff or visitors, would face severe consequences. The NCoS aims to restore order and maintain high standards of discipline to prevent further compromises to security.
