Katsina Conference Strengthens Fight Against Banditry

Security chiefs, the Katsina State Government, and stakeholders convened at the North-west Conference of State Directors of Security in Katsina to strengthen efforts against terrorism and banditry. The conference, themed ‘Unite Against Terror,’ featured remarks from Alhassan Iliyasu, the Katsina State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), who stressed the importance of collaboration among security agencies, communities, and stakeholders.

He noted that defeating terrorism and banditry requires collective efforts and intelligence sharing. Brigadier-General Ishaya Ibrahim, Commander of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, highlighted that military operations alone are insufficient, emphasizing the need for actionable intelligence.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, represented by Deputy Faruk Lawal, reported significant security improvements in Katsina through both kinetic and non-kinetic measures, attributing success to the cooperation between conventional security agencies and local security initiatives. The conference aimed to review security challenges and develop renewed strategies for curbing criminal activities in the Northwest.
