Seme Customs Revenue Reaches N19.84bn in 2026
The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, reported a revenue generation of N19.84bn between January and July 2026, exceeding the total of N15.94bn collected throughout 2025. Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila announced this achievement, indicating a revenue increase of N3.89bn, or 24.45%, compared to the previous year.
The improved performance is attributed to increased compliance from traders, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and strengthened operational efficiency at the land border. The command also intercepted contraband goods valued at N365.1m, including 1,268 bags of foreign parboiled rice smuggled into Nigeria.
Kaila emphasized that such illegal imports undermine domestic rice production and threaten local farmers' livelihoods. Additionally, expired and unregistered pharmaceutical products were seized, with some intended for repackaging and resale.
These products pose public health risks, and the seized items will be handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation. The Seme Command aims to balance trade facilitation with enforcement against smuggling while supporting Nigeria's economic reforms.
