Edo State: Seven Councillors Impeach Local Government Chairman Over Alleged Misconduct

In Edo State, seven councillors from Akoko Edo Local Government impeached the Local Government Chairman, Alabi Oshionogu, on January 28, 2026, accusing him of abuse of office, embezzlement of council funds, and anti-party activities. Oshionogu denied the allegations, attributing them to political motives.

The impeachment followed a failed peace meeting at the Edo State House of Assembly. Oshionogu vowed to continue serving the people and resist attempts to divert public funds.

Mondai Okpebholo, the Governor, emphasized the importance of good governance and vowed to uphold the constitution in resolving the matter.
