Tinubu Approves Major Pay Rise for Armed Forces Personnel

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu approved a second major pay rise for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, marking a strategic investment in military morale and operational effectiveness. The salary increase ranges from 30 to 80 percent depending on rank, representing one of the most significant improvements in military remuneration in recent years.

This decision follows an earlier salary review that raised the monthly salary of an entry-level soldier from approximately N49,000 to N100,000 under the administration of the then Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd). The Tinubu administration's commitment to military welfare is evident, as it seeks to enhance troop motivation and effectiveness amid Nigeria's complex security environment, which includes terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism.

The pay rise reflects a recognition that modern warfare requires not only advanced technology but also a well-supported and motivated military force.
