Six Dead in Kogi Gas Truck Explosion at Army Checkpoint

On Tuesday night, a gas-laden truck exploded at an Army checkpoint along the Abuja-Lokoja Federal Highway in Kogi State, resulting in the deaths of six individuals. Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion occurred as the truck approached the checkpoint, igniting a massive fire that engulfed the vehicle and spread to others nearby.

The incident involved a truck bearing registration numbers from Jigawa State and Lagos State, which was completely destroyed in the inferno. The victims, including the truck driver and a motor boy, were reported to have been burnt to death.

Emergency responses were initiated by police officers and personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps. The victims were evacuated to a general hospital in Abaji, and efforts were made to clear the burnt vehicles from the highway to restore traffic flow.

Attempts to obtain official confirmation from the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Public Relations Officer, ASP Salisu Oyiza, did not respond to calls or text messages seeking comments at the time of the report.
