NDC Candidates Reject Babachir Lawal as Regional Leader

Six governorship candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North-East have publicly rejected the appointment of Babachir Lawal as the leader of the party's activities in the region. This decision was communicated in a joint statement directed to the NDC national leadership and its National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.

The candidates expressed their discontent with Lawal's appointment, which occurred shortly after he joined the NDC, arguing that it was made without proper consultation with them or other key stakeholders involved in the party's development in the region. They emphasized that political decisions should reflect the views of grassroots operatives, asserting that Lawal's leadership could negatively impact the party's electoral prospects across the six North-East states.

The candidates urged Dickson and other national leaders to reconsider the appointment and engage with them to foster party unity ahead of the 2027 elections. The statement was signed by Aishatu Dahiru Ahamed (Adamawa), Barr.
