Sokoto Diocese Denies Attack on Bishop Kukah's Residence

The Sokoto Diocese has officially debunked allegations regarding an attack on Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah’s residence and the Catholic pastoral center, which were purportedly set ablaze. In a statement issued on a recent date, the diocese clarified that the facilities remain safe, intact, and fully operational.

Pascal Salifu, the director of communications, described the viral video as misleading and the work of individuals intending to create panic and destabilize society. The diocese emphasized that the video resurfaced following the 2022 killing of Deborah Yakubu, a student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, suggesting it was recirculated to inflame tensions.

The diocese expressed appreciation for the swift response of military and security agencies to the emerging video. They urged the public to disregard the false claims and conveyed Bishop Kukah’s goodwill message to the wider community ahead of the Easter celebrations.
