Sokoto State Schools Set to Reopen on September 14, 2026

The Sokoto State Government announced that public and private schools will resume on September 14, 2026, for the 2026/2027 academic session, with boarding schools reopening a day earlier on September 13. Schools previously closed due to insecurity will not reopen until the security situation is deemed safe, as stated by the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through its Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Muhammad Iya.

Parents are urged to ensure their children return to school promptly, and cooperation among parents, school authorities, and stakeholders is emphasized for a smooth resumption. Teachers are directed to resume duty immediately in schools scheduled to reopen, while those in affected schools must await further instructions.

The ministry will conduct monitoring visits to ensure compliance with the resumption schedule, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, has tasked heads of parastatals and agencies under the ministry to oversee the resumption exercise.
