Soldiers Rescue 27 Kidnap Victims in Sokoto, Zamfara

Between July 20 and 21, 2026, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA conducted coordinated operations in Sokoto and Zamfara states, rescuing 27 kidnap victims and thwarting fresh abduction attempts. The operations, reported by Lt.

Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), involved engagements with terrorists in various communities.

On July 20, troops from Forward Operating Bases in Shagari and Sifawa responded to credible intelligence about terrorist activities in Wanke and Kaura, leading to a fierce gun battle in Kaura, resulting in the rescue of six victims and the recovery of livestock and two motorcycles. In a separate operation, 10 victims were rescued in Gandi with the help of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps.

On July 21, troops responded to a distress call on the Gummi–Sokoto highway, rescuing 11 victims and recovering one motorcycle. Lt.

Col. Danja commended the troops for their professionalism and urged public cooperation with security agencies.
