Troops Foil Terrorist Attack, Rescue Nine in Zamfara

On August 2, 2026, at approximately 1:40 a.m., troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully thwarted a terrorist infiltration attempt at their Forward Operating Base in Kasuwan Daji, located in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The attack was met with heavy resistance, leading to significant casualties for the terrorists.

Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, reported that the troops detected the hostile movement early and responded with overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat. Following the initial engagement, military reinforcements pursued the fleeing terrorists, resulting in the rescue of nine abducted locals.

Unfortunately, the firefight claimed the lives of one Army officer and one Police officer, with two soldiers sustaining injuries. The injured personnel were evacuated for medical treatment.

Colonel Osoba reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to continue offensive operations against terrorist networks in the North-west region.
