Tinubu Urges Clerics to Combat Terrorism and Violence

On Sunday, President Bola Tinubu called on religious and spiritual leaders to consistently denounce terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and the misuse of religion to justify violence. This appeal was made in a goodwill message delivered in Kano by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during the Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani.

Tinubu acknowledged the significant role that religious leaders play in combating violence and extremism, urging them to advocate for peace education, religious literacy, and the moral development of youth. He stated that their voices must be raised against the murder of innocents and that they should remind political leaders of their responsibilities.

The President also highlighted the global challenges of conflict and displacement, citing a UN report that indicated 117.8 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide by the end of 2025. He recognized the Tijjaniyya community's potential to influence reconciliation and counter violent extremism, reaffirming Nigeria's commitment to regional cooperation and peacebuilding.
