Escalating Farmer-Herder Clashes in Abuja Community

The farmer-herder conflict in Gurfata, Gwagwalada, Abuja, intensified in July 2025, culminating in the death of Musa Yatsu on July 30, 2025. Halidu Musa received a call from his father, Yatsu, who was under attack while documenting crop destruction linked to herders.

The violence erupted after herders allegedly attempted to create a passage through farmland, leading to confrontations. The situation deteriorated further with a second attack resulting in injuries and fatalities among community members.

Despite multiple incidents since 2020, including injuries and deaths, law enforcement has not effectively addressed the violence, with community leaders expressing frustration over the lack of prosecution. The Miyetti Allah chairman in Gwagwalada noted the increasing expansion of farmland, contributing to the conflict.

The ongoing violence has left the community in mourning and distrust, with residents feeling vulnerable and frustrated by the absence of resolution.
