Akwa Ibom Assembly's N15.47bn Project Faces Delays

The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly is undergoing a N15.47 billion rehabilitation project, which has raised significant concerns regarding transparency and accountability. The project, which began on July 1, 2024, aims to overhaul the assembly complex, including the construction of a multi-purpose hall and other facilities.

However, after seven months of relocation to Luton Park Hotel, lawmakers have yet to return to their permanent headquarters. The project, initially scheduled for completion by April 2026, has faced delays, with no construction activity observed on-site.

Governor Umo Eno has expressed concern over the project's progress, while contractor Ochemba Lee stated that the project is comprehensive and that equipment has been mobilized to the site. The prolonged displacement of lawmakers and the costs associated with their temporary relocation have raised questions about the use of taxpayer funds, as the terms of the hotel arrangement remain undisclosed.
