Stakeholders Push for More Parenting Program Funding in Akwa Ibom

Stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State have urged for increased investment in evidence-based parenting programmes to enhance child protection and strengthen families. This call was made during a dissemination workshop themed “From the Airwaves to Stronger Families: Evaluating Parenting 101 with Isang and Shaping the Future of Parenting Support in Akwa Ibom State.” The workshop was organized by Parenting for Lifelong Health and the Global Parenting Initiative at the University of Oxford, funded by the John Fell Fund.

Participants included government officials, researchers, media professionals, and child protection experts who examined the findings of an independent evaluation of the radio programme Parenting 101 with Isang. Isang Awah, Head of Advocacy at the Global Parenting Initiative, emphasized the importance of supporting parents.

Enoima Clinton, representing the Commissioner for Women Affairs, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to child wellbeing. The evaluation presented by Nsikanabasi Wilson from the University of Uyo showed that the programme improved parents' knowledge and positive parenting practices.
