Stakeholders Demand Police Commissioner Redeployment in Osun

On Wednesday, during a stakeholders' meeting in Osogbo concerning the preparations for the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, participants expressed strong disapproval of the State Commissioner of Police. They accused him of bias and demanded his immediate redeployment.

The meeting included officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties, and civil society organizations, all focused on ensuring a peaceful and credible election. The tension escalated when the Commissioner of Police addressed the gathering, leading to participants booing him and chanting “Redeploy him!

Redeploy him!” They alleged that he had shown a lukewarm response to incidents of violence and intimidation in the state, undermining public confidence in the police's impartiality. Security operatives and event organizers had to intervene to restore calm.

In contrast, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan was warmly received when he spoke, with participants commending INEC for its preparations and urging it to maintain neutrality and transparency.
