Adeleke Demands Police Commissioner’s Removal Ahead of Election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has demanded the immediate redeployment of the state’s Commissioner of Police in light of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. He expressed concerns regarding the alleged partisanship and inability of the current police leadership to perform their duties impartially, which he believes has eroded public trust and heightened political tension in the state.

Adeleke made this demand during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigeria Police Force, led by the Inspector General of Police, to assess the security situation in Osun following recent political unrest and violence. He emphasized that the police must act fairly and professionally to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

The governor's call for change comes amid increasing pressure from residents and civil society groups, who have also protested against the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, for perceived bias and failure to maintain security. Adeleke insists that the police should respect the rule of law and protect citizens' rights during the electoral period.
