Troops Rescue 46 Students in Borno School Attack

On July 19, 2026, at approximately 1:30 AM, troops engaged in a coordinated operation to thwart a mass abduction attempt by suspected ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College in Monguno, Borno State. Captain Moham Goni, acting as the military information officer, reported that the terrorists gained access to the school with the help of collaborators.

Security personnel were alerted and engaged the attackers, who were overwhelmed by superior firepower. The quick reaction force provided immediate reinforcements, leading to the confrontation that forced the terrorists to abandon their mission.

Although the situation was contained, some school infrastructure sustained damage during the encounter. A total of 46 students were rescued and evacuated to Kinnasara Barrack in Monguno, where they received immediate medical attention and were confirmed stable.

Regrettably, some students were fatally struck by sporadic gunfire during the firefight. The military extended condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that measures would be taken to safeguard public institutions in Borno State.
