Sultan of Sokoto Advises Obi and Kwankwaso on Unity

On Monday, the Sultan of Sokoto received Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), along with his running mate, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and the party’s Sokoto State governorship candidate, Dr Shamsu Haido, at his palace in Sokoto. The Sultan advised politicians to respect one another and uphold national unity, urging them to avoid abusive language and actions that could incite violence.

He stressed that while politicians have the right to present their policies, they must do so respectfully and without creating hostility. The Sultan emphasized that political positions are temporary, while peace and unity are essential for societal development.

In response, Obi thanked the Sultan for the audience and called on Nigerians to support NDC candidates in the upcoming 2027 general elections, asserting the party's commitment to a “politics of care and service.” He also expressed concerns about Nigeria's economic situation and outlined plans to prioritize education and improve infrastructure.
