Thugs Assault Owo Local Government Chairman in Ondo State

On Monday, Mr. Tope Omolayo, the chairman of Owo Local Government Area in Ondo State, was assaulted by suspected thugs as he attempted to resume his duties after a six-month suspension.

The thugs allegedly invaded the council secretariat to prevent him from entering his office, leading to a confrontation. Eyewitnesses reported that Omolayo was mercilessly beaten, stripped of his clothing, and left nearly naked, causing embarrassment in front of the entire secretariat.

The incident prompted a swift response from the state police, with DSP Abayomi Jimoh confirming that personnel were deployed to restore order and investigate the matter. CP Adebowale Lawal ordered immediate security measures to ensure the safety of the area.

The police have urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue their activities without fear of apprehension. Efforts to reach Omolayo by phone were unsuccessful as his line was switched off.
