Thugs Assault Owo LG Chairman Tope Omolayo in Ondo

Mr. Tope Omolayo, the chairman of Owo Local Government Area in Ondo State, was assaulted and stripped by thugs on an undisclosed dispute related to his election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Omolayo had recently returned to the council secretariat after a six-month suspension due to alleged gross misconduct involving a councillor. Tensions escalated when the chairman attempted to resume his duties, leading to an altercation with thugs who stormed the premises to prevent him from accessing his office.

The situation quickly deteriorated into violence, with Omolayo being mercilessly beaten and stripped, leaving him almost naked. The chaos prompted people to flee for safety, and shots were fired into the air.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the state police public relations officer, confirmed that security personnel were swiftly deployed to restore order. An investigation has commenced to determine the cause of the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

Efforts to reach Omolayo for comments were unsuccessful as his phone line was switched off.
