Scheduled Power Outages in Seven States from April 2026

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a series of scheduled power outages affecting Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, and Yobe states from April 9 to May 22, 2026. These outages will occur weekly on Thursdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The outages are necessary for the installation of optic ground wire and fiber optic infrastructure along the Jo Gombe 330kV transmission line, part of a broader effort to modernize the national grid. NISO explained that while alternative supply arrangements will be made, power availability is expected to decrease during the outage periods due to inherent network constraints.

The agency emphasized that this upgrade is critical for enhancing grid operations, improving supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and strengthening telecommunications capabilities. Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly improve electricity reliability in the region, enabling faster fault detection and better load management.
