ASUU Urges Tinubu to Tackle Insecurity in South West

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) called on President Bola Tinubu and governors of the South West region to take immediate action against the increasing incidents of kidnapping and insecurity. This appeal was made during a press conference held in Ibadan, Oyo State, by the zonal coordinator, Prof.

Biodun Olaniran. He expressed dissatisfaction with the non-implementation of agreements between ASUU and state governments, particularly concerning the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education.

Olaniran noted that the federal government has not adequately addressed the crisis in Nigeria's tertiary education sector, leading to unrest. He emphasized the need for the South West governors to prevent banditry and kidnapping, which have escalated in the region.

Olaniran also criticized the federal government for failing to inaugurate a monitoring committee to ensure the smooth implementation of signed agreements, which has resulted in financial difficulties for universities and their staff.
