Tanzania President Samia Suluhu's Husband Passes Away

Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan, passed away while receiving treatment for a heart condition at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar. His death was confirmed by Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi, who stated that Ameir died at 08:00 local time (06:00 GMT) on Monday.

Funeral arrangements are being made in Kizimkazi, a village on the semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar. Ndejembi expressed condolences to President Samia and Ameir's family and friends, acknowledging the late academic's contributions.

Hafidh Ameir Hassan was Tanzania's first First Gentleman after President Samia took office in 2021 and maintained a low public profile, rarely appearing at official events. He married Samia in 1978, prior to her political career, and they had four children together, including their daughter Wanu Hafidh Ameir, who serves in Zanzibar’s House of Representatives.
