Team Nigeria Ready for 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

The 23rd Commonwealth Games officially begins on July 23, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland, with Team Nigeria prepared to launch its campaign alongside thousands of athletes from the Commonwealth. This event marks Nigeria's 20th appearance at the Commonwealth Games, 76 years after its debut in Auckland, Australia, in 1950.

Team Nigeria's delegation includes 74 athletes who are settled in the Games Village, accompanied by prominent sports officials such as National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade. The athletes will showcase their cultural identity in striking green-and-white ceremonial outfits during the Opening Ceremony at the OVO Hydro, which will also feature performances by KT Tunstall and others.

The Games will run from July 23 to August 2, 2026, with approximately 3,000 athletes competing for 215 gold medals across 10 sports. The ceremony will be attended by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who will officially declare the Games open.
