Team Nigeria Heads to Angola for Commonwealth Qualifiers

Team Nigeria has officially departed for Luanda, Angola, to participate in the 2026 IWBF Africa 3x3 Championship scheduled from March 22 to 27. This championship serves as a qualifying tournament for the Commonwealth Games.

The squad, consisting of eight athletes, prepared through a two-week training camp at Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja from March 8 to 21. Seyi Johnson, the President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, expressed confidence in the team's quality, resilience, and determination ahead of their departure on Saturday evening.

He is optimistic that the athletes will deliver positive results to secure Nigeria's qualification for the Commonwealth Games. Johnson emphasized the broader significance of the team's participation, highlighting Nigeria's commitment to inclusive sports development and commending the National Sports Commission for its support throughout the preparation process.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games are scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 1 in Glasgow.
