Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Team Reaches Semi-Finals

The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball team has successfully advanced to the semi-finals of the 2026 Commonwealth Games qualifiers. Under the guidance of head coach Tay Sofolahan, the men's team initially faced a setback with a 10-5 defeat against South Africa after winning against Gambia 14-2.

They will next compete against Kenya in the semi-finals. Sofolahan praised the players for their fighting spirit, especially after being underestimated due to the absence of international competition.

Oluwaseyi Johnson, the president of Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball, commended the team's performance and emphasized the importance of securing qualification for the Commonwealth Games, which would enhance Nigeria's presence in Africa. Meanwhile, the women's team also performed well, bouncing back from a 4-2 loss to South Africa with an emphatic 8-0 victory over Kenya, thereby securing their spot in the semi-finals.
