Prominent Nigerian Islamic Scholar Imam Asubiaro Dies

Imam Abdul-Ganiy Adeleke Asubiaro, known as Alfa Gani, passed away on September 6, 2026, as announced by the Nigerian Muslim Community in Ireland. He was recognized as a foundational figure in the development of organized Nigerian Islamic life in Ireland.

His death has left many in the community mourning, though they accept it as God's will. Imam Asubiaro was instrumental in establishing Islamic societies across various counties and was known for his annual family lectures that addressed issues affecting Muslim households.

He was respected as a bridge-builder and mediator, often resolving disputes within families and community groups. Following his death, the Islamic Foundation of Ireland coordinated his burial arrangements, which included traditional Islamic washing and a funeral prayer held at the IFI Dublin Mosque on September 11, 2026.

He was laid to rest at the Drogheda Muslim Cemetery, with community condolences hosted at St Fechin’s GAA grounds in Termonfeckin.
