FG and ASUU Investigate Corruption in TETFund Allocations

The Federal Government of Nigeria, alongside the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has expressed concerns regarding the management of TETFund allocations by vice chancellors of public universities. ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, highlighted issues of weak oversight and the diversion of funds meant for academic development during a public presentation in Abuja.

He noted that despite increased financial support to universities in recent years, many institutions have failed to utilize these funds effectively, leading to significant mismanagement. Professor Piwuna indicated that ASUU would begin scrutinizing university management practices to ensure accountability.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, supported ASUU's call for greater scrutiny, urging that vice chancellors and rectors must be held accountable for the management of public funds.

He emphasized the necessity for fiduciary responsibility in deploying resources meant for the development of tertiary institutions.
