Gunmen Kill Three, Abduct Two in Benue State Attack

On Saturday night, gunmen ambushed mourners returning from a burial ceremony in Sati Ikov, Ushongo Local Government Area, Benue State, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and the abduction of two others. The attack occurred as mourners were returning home, and local residents, who requested anonymity due to fear of reprisals, reported the incident.

The deceased were identified as Bem Msughter, Mbakyombo Daav Ikov, and Aondo Chia Mbamegh Daav Ikov. The two kidnapped individuals were identified as Aondongu Amo and Mbanyion Po, both young men.

Simon Gabo, a lawmaker representing Ushongo State Constituency in the State Assembly, condemned the activities of armed militia in the area, which has turned the community into a battlefield over the past two weeks, resulting in several deaths. Gabo noted that armed men frequently cross from the Katsina Ala Local Government Area to launch attacks.

The police have deployed security personnel to the community, but fears remain high among residents amid rising insecurity.
