Thunderstrike Claims Life of Police Inspector in Borno

On May 7, 2026, a thunderstrike tragically killed Inspector Abdulkadir Garba, popularly known as Buratai, while he was on duty with the Borno State Police Command in Maiduguri. The incident occurred around 2:19 PM as Inspector Garba and his senior colleague, ASP Wazani Adamu, were coordinating vehicle parking opposite the police command headquarters.

As strong winds gathered and rain began, they attempted to seek shelter. Suddenly, a loud thunderclap was followed by a lightning strike that directly impacted Inspector Garba, who sadly lost his life and was described as having a partially burned body.

ASP Wazani Adamu survived the strike, which was characterized as a miraculous escape. The police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, expressed the shock and grief felt by the command and the public over the sudden loss of Inspector Garba, who was known for his dedication and commitment to duty.
