Tinubu Orders Forensic Audit of Federal Government Systems

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu instructed the Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to oversee a comprehensive forensic audit of Federal Government systems. This directive follows a Federal Executive Council resolution on August 19, 2026, in response to findings by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) regarding "fake agencies," ghost workers, and other control failures.

The audit will focus on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and will include a review of payroll, personnel, pension, and financial-management platforms. It aims to identify weaknesses in the Government's control systems and how these have been exploited.

The audit will consist of two components: a forensic audit of IPPIS and related systems, and a review of all Federal Government agencies to verify their legal basis and governance controls. The exercise is expected to enhance accountability and ensure that only eligible personnel access government resources.
