Tinubu Nominates Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially nominated Lamido Abubakar Yuguda for the position of Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), subject to Senate confirmation as stipulated in Section 8(1) of the CBN Act of 2007. This nomination follows the recent appointment of Bala Bello as a special adviser to the President on political economy.

Tinubu expressed confidence in Yuguda's ability to contribute to Nigeria's economic stability and growth. Lamido Yuguda previously served as the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2020 to 2024.

He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, where he graduated with a B.Sc. in 1983 and obtained a Master’s degree in Money Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, in 1991. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a CFA charterholder.

Yuguda began his career in 1984 at the CBN, where he worked as a senior supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department and served as an economist at the African Department of the International Monetary Fund from 1997 to 2001. He returned to the CBN and retired in 2016 after serving as the Director of the Reserve Management Department for six years.
