Tinubu Calls for Peaceful Elections in Osun State

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to guarantee a peaceful and transparent election in Osun State, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026. In this election, 15 candidates are vying for the governorship, including the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Hon. Najeem Salaam.

In a statement issued by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu urged the electorate to fulfill their civic duties and avoid actions that could disrupt the election. He emphasized the need for INEC to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, using this off-cycle election as a test case for the upcoming 2027 polls.

Tinubu also instructed the Inspector-General of Police and other security heads to provide maximum security at polling units, ensuring that electoral officials and voters can perform their duties without fear or intimidation.
