Tinubu Calls on Clerics to Combat Terrorism and Violence

On Sunday, President Bola Tinubu called on religious and spiritual leaders to actively speak out against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and the misuse of religion to justify violence. This appeal was made in a goodwill message delivered by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, at the Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani in Kano.

Tinubu emphasized the critical role of religious leaders in addressing violence and extremism, urging them to advocate for peace education, religious literacy, and the moral development of youth. He stated that their voices must consistently oppose the murder of innocent people and the justification of cruelty through religion.

The President highlighted the global challenges of conflict and displacement, citing a UN report indicating that 117.8 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide by the end of 2025. He recognized the Tijjaniyya community's potential for promoting reconciliation and countering violent extremism, while reaffirming Nigeria's commitment to regional cooperation and counter-terrorism efforts.
