Obi Critiques Tinubu's Forest Guard Recruitment Plan

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, criticized President Bola Tinubu's recent approval to recruit 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State, labeling it as indicative of poor leadership. Obi stated that this reactive approach to governance fails to address the pervasive insecurity in Nigeria, which requires a comprehensive strategy rather than hastily implemented measures.

He pointed out that almost 36 states in Nigeria are experiencing various forms of insecurity, questioning whether similar approvals for forest guard recruitment would extend to other states. Obi noted that the approval follows recent incidents of abduction in Oyo State and expressed concern about the effectiveness of the Amotekun Corps in securing the South West region.

He highlighted the alarming statistics of 10,000 Nigerians reportedly killed in 2023, asserting that Nigeria remains one of the most terror-affected countries globally. Obi called for a holistic, ecosystem-based approach to tackle insecurity, criticizing the current leadership for its failure to unify the nation and effectively utilize its abundant resources.
