Tinubu Launches Nigeria's First Modern Girls' School

On Friday, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria's First Lady, inaugurated the newly rehabilitated First Alternative High School for Girls located on Old Ojo Road, Agboju, in the Amuwo area of Lagos. This school, conceived by Mrs.

Tinubu in 2007 during her husband's governorship of Lagos State, is the first of its kind in Nigeria, designed to offer formal education and vocational skills to young female school dropouts affected by early pregnancy, poverty, or cultural barriers. The school has undergone significant rehabilitation, now featuring modern classrooms, workshops, science laboratories, a library, ICT facilities, and a crèche for nursing mothers.

At the inauguration, represented by Hajia Nana Shettima, Mrs. Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the school's growth and emphasized the importance of providing educational opportunities for girls facing socio-economic challenges.

She acknowledged the efforts of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in renovating the school and called for the establishment of additional schools in Lagos State's senatorial districts.
