Nigeria Customs Service Wins Commonwealth Gold Award

Okey Ibeke, Principal Consultant at International Trade Advisory Services Ltd., commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for receiving the 2026 Commonwealth Gold Award for Environment and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), attributing this achievement to the Customs Cares initiative. Introduced by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on community development around ports and border posts.

Customs Cares operates on six pillars: education, healthcare, food security, environmental sustainability, social investment, and the creative economy. It has facilitated projects such as school rehabilitation, scholarships, and medical outreach in underserved communities.

Ibeke noted that the initiative's environmental efforts, including tree planting and waste management, contributed to the award. He emphasized that these interventions enhance stakeholder engagement, improve community relations, and bolster public confidence in the Customs Service, ultimately supporting Nigeria's investment and sustainability objectives.
