Nigeria Customs Service Wins Commonwealth Community Award

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) was awarded a Commonwealth award in Glasgow, Scotland, for its community development initiatives that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The award recognized the NCS's interventions in education, healthcare, food security, and environmental sustainability, particularly its Hub-and-Spoke Community Activation Model.

Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS aims to enhance public confidence and expand its role in Nigeria's economic reform agenda. Deputy Comptroller-General Timi Bomodi accepted the award on behalf of Adeniyi, stating that it validates the belief that public institutions should create value beyond their statutory mandates.

The Customs Cares initiative has impacted over 10 million Nigerians across 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory through various projects. The recognition is expected to bolster the NCS's reputation and improve stakeholder engagement, as customs administrations are increasingly evaluated on their contributions to sustainable development and social inclusion.
