Troops Arrest 21 Drug Peddlers in Abia State Raid

On May 25, 2026, troops from the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with personnel from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Air Force's 511 Quick Response Group, conducted a coordinated raid at Owaza Mammi Market in Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State. This operation was based on credible intelligence regarding alleged activities related to crude oil bunkering, illegal petroleum dealing, pipeline vandalism, and illicit drug trafficking.

During the raid, 21 suspects were arrested, and large quantities of illicit substances, including Indian hemp and other hard drugs, were seized. Additionally, a sum of N103,000 believed to be linked to the suspects' illegal activities was recovered.

The arrested individuals are currently undergoing preliminary profiling and are expected to be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution. The Nigerian Army stated that operations will continue in the area to deny criminal elements freedom of operation.
