Police Foil Kidnap Attempt in Oyo, Two Injured

On April 21, 2026, at 7:50 PM, a kidnapping attempt was thwarted in the Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State, resulting in two individuals sustaining gunshot injuries. Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlad reported that the swift response from security operatives, aided by local hunters, prevented armed assailants from executing their plan to abduct victims.

The incident followed a similar occurrence in Onigambari Village, where a victim named Dasola was killed during an attack. Upon receiving a distress call from concerned residents about four armed hoodlums attacking a point-of-sale shop, police operatives were immediately mobilized to the scene.

During the exchange of gunfire, two individuals were hit, but they were quickly rescued and transported to a medical facility for treatment. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing, with security personnel intensifying bush combing operations across the area.

The State Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of additional personnel to reinforce security and deter further criminal activities, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements.
