Fury vs Joshua Fight Set for Madison Square Garden

Tyson Fury announced on Instagram that his heavyweight bout against British-Nigerian Anthony Joshua will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York. The announcement was made on September 2, with November 20 understood as the target date for the fight.

Fury expressed excitement about the venue, stating, “What a place NYC, and what a venue MSG, and what a fight Fury vs AJ, the land of opportunity.” At the time of the announcement, Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, had not confirmed the details. The decision to hold the fight in the U.S. followed extensive negotiations, despite Joshua's initial preference for a UK venue.

Hearn acknowledged the financial arrangements needed to be favorable, particularly concerning tax implications that could affect Joshua's earnings. The fight's location has sparked debate among fans, questioning the choice of New York over a major British venue like Wembley Stadium.

Previous negotiations for a Fury-Joshua fight collapsed in 2021 due to contractual obligations involving Deontay Wilder.
