Uber to Lay Off 3,300 Employees in Global Restructuring

Uber Technologies is set to reduce its workforce by about 3,300 jobs globally, which constitutes roughly 10% of its total workforce. This decision, announced by Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi via email, is part of a major restructuring aimed at reducing management layers and reallocating resources towards growth and autonomous vehicle technology.

The restructuring is expected to decrease Uber's management ranks by approximately 20%, with some managers transitioning to individual contributor roles. The company will also simplify its organizational structure by cutting the number of small teams and reducing employees positioned seven or more layers below the CEO by 20%.

Additionally, Uber is consolidating its delivery operations teams into unified teams at various levels. This restructuring follows previous workforce reductions in customer service and human resources.

Furthermore, Uber announced it would cease operations in Nigeria and Uganda effective September 2, 2026, ending its 12-year presence in Nigeria, which began in 2014.
