Kaduna's Open Government Reforms Praised at UCLG Congress

At the UCLG World Congress held in Tangier, Morocco, Kaduna State's Governor Uba Sani received accolades for his administration's commitment to open government reforms. During a high-level session titled "Human Capital and Democratic Transformation for the Future of the Global South," Governor Sani highlighted various initiatives aimed at enhancing citizen engagement and transparency in governance.

His administration has prioritized security, infrastructure, and agriculture, leading to substantial investments in education and healthcare. Notably, the government constructed 736 classrooms, recruited 10,000 teachers, revitalized 255 primary healthcare centers, and established 23 centers of excellence.

The 2026 budget allocates 11% to agriculture, with 23 local government areas participating in an open government partnership. The administration has institutionalized a citizen participatory audit framework and achieved a perfect score in fiscal transparency.

Governor Sani's efforts are seen as a model for democratic transformation and public trust restoration, emphasizing the importance of local governments in achieving sustainable development goals.
