74-Year-Old Man Arrested with 11kg Cocaine at Abuja Airport

On March 14, 2026, Emeka Nnamdi Azikiwe, a 74-year-old man, was apprehended at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja while attempting to board British Airways flight BA082 to London. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), through its Director of Media Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, reported that Azikiwe was found with 11 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside balloon foil wraps within food items, including ground dry pepper.

He claimed he was traveling for vacation, which led to his immediate arrest. In related operations, the NDLEA arrested Maryam Olalowo at Ikad Hotel for attempting to sell cocaine and cannabis.

The agency also seized large quantities of tramadol and skunk in various raids across Lagos and Abuja, emphasizing its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.
